BALTIMORE RAVENS

TRAINING FACILITY MURAL

CREATING A MURAL WITH ENOUGH DETAILS TO MAKE OUT

FAN FACES REQUIRES A BIT MORE THAN SNAPPING A PHOTO…

MAKING THE MURAL

Our task: to have “360 shot” of the stadium erupting as one.

Creating that shot took some practice and some specific gear to pull off on top of holding enough detail for close viewing. A gigapan was the obvious direction. We used a 100MP Phase One Hasselblad with a 300mm lens to get such fine detail. We paired that with a Kessler motion control head. It was truly impressive.

We had three games to get what we needed regardless of any weather issues, poor fan turnout and possible poor play. Challenging enough, timing the photography was extra tricky.

It took several rounds of big plays (thank God we got some good ones) to capture some really nice moments in most areas of the stadium. What wasn’t captured required some very intensive patchwork and a super computer to handle to massive files we were dealing with. It did come out great!

The two murals were printed on acoustic fabric and installed in the teams theatre event space as an accent to the training facilities expansion. Being in the space is truly remarkable. The view of the stadium is something special and gives you the fanatic energy echoing around the stadium.
